What I can help with

If it plugs in or lights up, I can probably help.

Here are the things people call me about most.

  • New phone, tablet or computer

Set up, ready to use, with your contacts, photos and apps moved over from the old one.

  • Photos, saved and backed up

Your family photos copied somewhere safe, so a broken phone never means losing them.

  • Wi-Fi that works in every room

Slow, spotty or keeps dropping? I'll find out why and get you connected.

  • Printer won't print

Connected, printing and scanning again — and I'll show you how to fix it next time.

  • Locked out or forgot a password

Back into your email and accounts, plus a simple, safe way to keep track of passwords.

  • Slow computer tune-up

Cleaned up, updated and running faster — often no need to buy a new one.

  • Video calls with family

See the grandkids on FaceTime or Zoom with one tap. We'll practice until it feels easy.

  • Tech lessons, at your pace

Learn your phone, tablet or email one step at a time. No question is a silly question.

Don't see your problem? Call me at (555) 555-0123 and just describe it — no tech words needed.

How it works

Four easy steps. No shipping your computer anywhere.

  1. Step 1: You call

Tell me what's going on in your own words. We'll pick a time that suits you.

  2. Step 2: I come to you

I show up on time, at your home, and you'll know the price before I start.

  3. Step 3: We fix it together

I fix the problem and explain what I did in plain English. Ask anything.

  4. Step 4: You keep a cheat sheet

I leave a simple printed note so you can do it yourself next time.

Bigger job? You get a quote first.

If something will take longer than an hour — like setting up several devices or a whole-house Wi-Fi fix — I'll tell you the price for the whole project before I do any extra work. You decide. No pressure, ever.

Easy ways to pay

You pay at the end of the visit, when you're happy. I take cash, check, or card. I will never ask for gift cards, wire transfers or crypto.

My promises to you

Tech support you can actually trust.

Scammers pretend to be "tech support" all the time. Here's how I'm different — and how you can always tell it's really me.

  • I will never call, text or email you out of the blue about a problem with your computer.
  • I will never ask you to pay with gift cards, wire transfers or crypto.
  • I never connect to your computer from far away unless you asked me to and you're watching.
  • I don't keep your passwords. I'll help you store them safely yourself.
  • You'll always know the price before I start.

Meet your tech helper

Hi, I'm Dan.

I'm your neighbor who's good with computers — not a call center, and not a store counter.

I started Dan's Tech House Calls because I've seen how stressful technology can be when it stops working, and how much easier it is with someone patient sitting right beside you. I'll never rush you, never talk down to you, and never sell you something you don't need.

I work with Windows computers, Macs, iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, printers, Wi-Fi and smart TVs.

Common questions

Good questions people ask

How much does it cost?

$75 per visit, and that includes the first full hour. Most problems are solved in that hour. If a job will take longer, I'll give you a price for the whole thing before doing any extra work.

How long does a visit take?

Most visits take about an hour. Bigger projects, like setting up several new devices, can take longer — and you'll know ahead of time.

What should I have ready?

Just the devices you'd like help with, their chargers, and any passwords you already know (it's fine if you don't know them — that's often why people call). A list of questions is handy too.

What kinds of devices do you work on?

Windows computers, Macs, iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, printers, Wi-Fi routers, smart TVs and streaming boxes. If you're not sure, just ask.

Where do you travel to?

I serve the Roanoke Valley & Blue Ridge. Call or email and I'll let you know if you're in my area.

How do I pay?

You pay at the end of the visit. I take cash, check, or card. I will never ask for gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency — if anyone claiming to be "tech support" does, it's a scam.

I'm booking for my mom or dad. Can I pay for it?

Yes. You can book, pay, and be on the phone when we schedule. With their permission, I'll send you a short summary after the visit.

Will you see my private information?

Only what's needed to fix the problem, and only with you right there. I don't copy, keep or share your files or passwords.

Ready when you are. Just give me a call.

A real person answers — me. If I miss you, I'll call you back.
